Fredericton Homeowner’s Tax Bills Up

March 312010

Ben Schmidt of http://www.benschmidt.tv a real estate agent of Fredericton, NB and Oromocto, NB video blogs about Fredericton’s Municipal Residential Tax Bills just received by homeowners in the mail.

So everyone by now should have their tax assessments in the mail. Some of you may have left them in the mailbox for a little while, I know I did. As we were told municipal residential tax rates rose by 0.85 cents per $100 of assess value. This puts the new rate at $1.4261 per $100 of assessed value. Meaning, if you own a home in the Fredericton municipality and your home is worth $200,000 then your tax bill is almost $3000! ($2968, a $93 increase over last year.) On top of increase municipal tax rates would be the fact that the majority of assessed values rose as well. With the average single-family home increasing an average of 4% last year, (through Fredericton and Oromocto), we in essence see a doubling effect.

If you have any questions about your tax bill give me an email ben.schmidt@me.com or leave your comments here.

Why would environmentalists or businesses even consider eliminating telephone book white pages?

March 302010

I’m 100% behind saving our trees and forests, but, WE NEED OUR WHITE PAGES!!! Keep the White Pages, and eliminate multiple yellow page books and junk mail!!! My town of about 28,000 has at least 7 phone books, a couple of them yellow pages/advertising only. Some of them aren’t up to date–there are addresses and phone numbers for businesses that closed 20 years ago.!!! This is ludicrist!!! I also find that I have to have a copy of each book published for our area–not all businesses advertise in every book, so you have to go through 1-7 books trying to locate a business. The same is true for the white page sections. Some of the books publish very out of date residential listings, and some books listings are incomplete. My residental listing isn’t in every book for the area that publishes residential listings. If we get rid of the extra trash books, we could save 3-5 times the trees we would as opposed to discontinuing white pages nationally. Part of my land line phone charges include my residential listing, and I hope it stays that way. I also would have a less cluttered den area if I had no more than 3 phone books as opposed to 7. Let’s see just a few companies publish complete and correct books, and dump the unnecessary ones. KEEP THE WHITE PAGES! SAVE MORE TREES BY DUMPING EXCESS YELLOW PAGE BOOKS!!! JUNK MAIL: Some companies literally harass you with advertising. One cable/disc company sent me a rather thick brochure twice last week. They called me on the phone. When I called to get taken off the list, they told me to stop harassing them. I have to business relationship with this company, and am on a type of "no spam/no junk mail" list for the U.S Postal Service. Think of all the companies that slam advertising down your mailbox like this–think of all the trees that could be saved if this was prohibited and enforced, and "anti spam-junk mail lists were enforced." I really get tired of trotting out to the recycling bin with bags full of junk mail after spending time opening it. It’s a pain in the neck. Raises MY heating costs to open the door twice in the Winter to run out and back in to throw it in the recycling bin. I feel like a "slave" to junk mail. I don’t want ANY of it!! Save billions of trees by getting rid of junk mail–mostly advertising.

I think that you could go online for white pages but If they eliminate yellow pages then that would suck. I understand where your coming from and another thing that irritates me is that there trying to replace it with internet but computers are filled with crap that are damaging to the environment.

Why are mailboxes in my town at the curb instead of at the front door?

March 302010

We live in suburbia, just 12 miles outside of downtown Los Angeles. The town to the east of us gets its mail delivered to the front door of the house, but our mail goes to boxes at the curb, often across the street. As a result, mail is often stolen here. Why can’t we get ours at the house? Are we living with the heritage of once having been a "rural" community?
I understand that delivering the mail to a curbside mailbox is much easier to a postal employee in a Jeep. What I don’t understand is why the people in the town (Pasadena) next door get theirs at the door, and don’t have to pay more for that service.

Usually because there are no sidewalks on those streets

do you have to pay to use the fedex mailbox outside of the post office?

March 302010

I live in cicero, Illinois. I sent a money order to someone who lives in palatine but through a fedex mail box that was in front of the post office. its been about 6 days from today since i sent it and he hasn’t gotten it yet. im just asking cause i wanna know if its on its way or if i had to pay some kind of toll or some thing like that. any help is greatly appriciated.

If you put US postage stamps on the letter, but put it in the Fedex drop box, the Fedex driver will just put it back into the US mailbox where it belongs, as people put letters in there by mistake all the time. In order to send something Fedex, you have to have a Fedex label on it, not just an address. And you have to pay for it, which starts at about 7 dollars. It’s a completely different process.

If you didn’t put any postage on it, it will eventually be returned to the return address you wrote on the envelope. If you didn’t write a return address on it, it’s gone.
