I can sodder (sp?) them if I want, I thought about spray-painting them but… we didn’t have any cool colors.
I was thinking about making a windchime some how because they sould really pretty and windchime-y when they hit each other. BUT they will tangle if I use string to attach them.

Ideas appreciated!
and some others too.

Here’s a site with lots of uses for old keys, including windchimes. The ‘a key for Santa’ project would be a great community-service activity, if you’re in the mood.
Hope you find something you like.

Hello again, and thanks for bearing with me yet again!
I’ve got a 1975 Honda CB550 K1, and when the engine is running it sounds like one of the valves is making a ticking sound. Whether it’s a valve or not, it’s coming from the top of the engine around the cyl #1 location, which is why I think it’s a valve clearance issue, and it sounds like metal tapping against metal. It doesn’t go away when the engine is warm or cold, but it seems to smooth out when RPMs get higher than about 3500-4000?
It’s not terribly loud, but it’s loud enough to concern me and my paranoid brain. I can’t exactly demonstrate, but I’d say it’s about as loud as if I were tapping a brass key (like a mailbox key) against the top of the engine while holding it firmly in my hand. Again, each person probably is hearing a vastly different sound, but take it from me it’s about medium loud…….maybe a 3 or 5 on a scale of 10, with 10 being loud enough that you have no doubt that there’s something seriously wrong.
I’m just curious if it’s a big enough issue that I should refrain from riding until I have time to adjust the valve lash, or what. The bike runs fine and I’ve put about 250 miles on it (and God only knows how many miles have been put on it with that same sound coming from the engine before I bought the bike..)

Thanks for any help, hope I was descriptive enough.

EDIT: Is valve lash even what I am hearing here? I am not asking HOW to do valve lash adjustments (I already know that), I am really asking whether this sound I am hearing is a result of a bad valve adjustment in there, or if I even need to worry about it at all – maybe that ticking sound is inherant to these CB550 engines? I’ve never owned a bike like this and I don’t know what to expect, so that’s what I am trying to learn here.

Thanks so much!

My crystal ball isn’t working at the moment.
Sorry, I just had to say that.
Engine tear down and inspection is required.

It would’ve helped knowing the mileage on the engine.
A ticking noise is not normal, or common on that model.
It could be valve lash as you suspected – a simple adjustment can rule that problem out if the adjustment doesn’t make a difference.

If the valve lash isn’t the cause of the noise, the next possible reason would be a worn rocker arm and/or rocker arm shaft.
Rocker arms and shafts ware out on bikes all the time – your bike is no different.
The year of the bike helps in the rocker arm hypothesis.

Keep riding it, but take it easy.
Perform a major overhaul when the bike is not needed – like during the winter.
If the sound gets louder, or more pronounced – stop riding and fix it before any major damage occurs.

Ok, this is a piece my cowriter and I have put together. It has not been edited yet, and it is clearly an adult novel set through a young adult’s eye (19 years old). The scene may sound funny–yeah, it’s worth a laugh–but I am quite serious. Please comment with maturity! Thanks in advance.

Eagle Nest, New Mexico

Come a breezy sunset after a long day’s work in the office cubicles, suits materialize wandering downtown in search for cold drinks and overhead fans. After operating heavy machinery, workers swarmed the few saloons in Eagle Nest and around; like worker bees putting their feet up after the bee hive hectic was over.

The bars were chock-full every night. That emptied out the streets somewhat, and marauders were free to stir on the cracked pavements.

Two gangly young men crossed the street in a hurry, heads down and following the streetlights into another quiet neighborhood, avoiding the shadows like sinners confession booths.

The one who knew his hometown, the tall college boy wearing shorts and a sweater, crumpled the directions note into a ball the moment he saw the house. His boyfriend followed mutely, shyly.

“This is the place, right? Check the mailbox.” said College Boy, gazing at the black and blue flickering of a TV through the window with one hand shielding his eyes from the blinding street lights above. The boyfriend read the golden print on the brass mailbox, his index finger following the letters; in case he missed any. “Berkiss.”

As instructed, the two ignored the main entrance and proceeded through the thick shrubs and into the yard. Following the thin strip of concrete against the house’s yellow façade, they went behind it. A dusty garage doors appeared like a mirage. The burglar lights instantly came to life, illuminating their ankles like stage lights. College Boy, namely Dewey, pulled his partner by the hand and onto the dirty rag where they were inclined to wipe their feet. Dewey rang the bell, and waited. Something shuffled inside.

Clyde Berkiss appeared before them, thick smoke surrounding the forgettable features of his teenage face. He slid the door aside, one arm resting on the frame and tapped the dip under his nose pensively, remembering their names. “Dewey, Dominic.” He said, his voice lackluster and hoarse as if he had been recovering from a fever.

They shook hands, and Clyde let them through. The two men took a fleeting look at the interior, mildly disappointed with the monotonous atmosphere. They were standing on a licked out dark carpet, surrounded by book shelves, a writing desk and single bed. The walls were naked except for a The Who poster with torn edges, more book shelves lacking real literature and self-made stickers on the door now that Clyde closed them.

Not knowing where to stand or how to spark the conversation, the two men stood by and observed Clyde’s frame. He wasn’t taller than the newcomers, but skinner and more drenched-looking. He truly owned one of the plainest faces they had ever seen, though tonight he had dark circles under his eyes. Clyde was a gaunt teenager, always dressed in second-hand wardrobe with dark windswept hair, sucking on an unlit cigarette between classes.

He took a seat behind the writing desk facing the wall, turned to the two and smiled amiably. He seemed to have already begun with the twelve pack of beer, finishing off his first and helping himself to a second one. A pack of Marlboro Reds lay next to a massive computer on standby, the smoke from his lit cigarette trickling towards the ceiling. Marijuana debris and a bag of tobacco lay before his reach.

“No trouble finding the place?”

“No, your instructions were pretty clear.” Dewey replied.

“You can sit on the bed.”

As the two sunk onto the plastered mattress, Clyde ran his hands down the front of his washed-out jeans, drying the dampness from holding cooled beer cans, and ambled into the built-in closet. He took out a tripod with three black iron legs and mounted it expertly between the bed and his seat behind the desk.

Dewey slipped the sweater over his head and doubled it over on his lap. “How much is this gonna cost? A friend of mine said it ain’t gonna hurt my wallet.”

“Fifty bucks upfront, twenty tomorrow for a thirty minute video. You get complementary condoms, an AIDS brochure and beer.” Clyde said; a well rehearsed sentence.

“How about a couple of joints?”

“Mary Jane ain’t a cheap lady.’”

“How much?” Dominic said abruptly, reaching into his back pocket.

They eased into ecstasy. Clyde scratched the eczema on his elbow, while the two lovers threw their heads back and onto the springy mattress, smiling softly. Clyde waved a hand before his face, clearing the air.

“I don’t do POVs. I can zoom in, zoom out, and walk around a bit to give you that nice panoramic view, do something with the lights.” He began. “I play any genre of background music you like. Just don’t ask me to crank t
Katie–you read awful fast.
It was tinkered around as a screenplay at first, so I can totally see the choppiness in there. Thank you! I’ll go ahead and simplify it…any Good parts!?

It is very choppy. I had tor re read the opening paragraph several times to fully understand. The wording feels a mixture between slang, txt and really not clear and no possibility of making it visual.
ex:

The opening of the sunset scene and office cubicles in the same sentence
Pull me in with a description of the sunset and a description of the outside environment.
Tell me about the office, the workers, the cubicles.
Then make me visualize the bar and surrounding bars, the patrons.

If it is not important enough to describe and interest me, then why mention it? Make the words count

Then think about those suggestions and see if you can apply it to the rest.

I had to read this several times to even sorta understand the purpose.

I have had intermittent problems with USPS mail delivery at my home. It is a single family residence in a large suburb. The latest problem really irks me. I do tend to get an above average amount of mail each day. So, I installed a brass mail slot in my front door – standard size – 2" x 7.5 inches. Nearly everything will fit through, although it may take two or three batches of mail to put it through (if there is a lot of mail on a given day). Magazines can be folded over just like in a standard mailbox. This week I found two different situations. First, the mail was stuck in the slot – half way in and half way out. Second, the mail was just placed on the ridge between the front door and the storm/screen door in front of it. Today, with 30 mph winds in the area – I opened the storm door to have the mail go flying out everywhere.

What are the rules regarding where the postal delivery person has to put the mail? Where can I find them? Thanks.

The other answer is correct – you need to contact your Postmaster. It may depend where you live, but many carriers would not be required to put mail through a slot in your door. Guidelines are pretty specific on what carriers can and don’t have to do; your Postmaster is the only person who can give you the specifics for your city.

Section # 421 – a prime number – graces the stands in the upper section of Wrigley behind home plate. This section is located right below the broadcast booths and to me represents the upper chambers of the Heart of Wrigley Field.

421 is the prime of Paris (71991) = 421 prime X 171 which corresponds to the Heart of Europe. Right in the Heart of Paris there’s the Sacré-Cœur Basilica a Roman Catholic basilica that is a very popular landmark. that is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The basilica is located at the summit of the butte Montmartre, the highest point in the city – see http://tinyurl.com/6kbxur

421 is also 65 (ON) from Leo (356) which is the astrological sign for the Divine Birthmonth, August, whose ruling planet is the Sun and which corresponds to the Human Heart. As you look to the left from this vantage point you will note that the left field foul pole has 355 feet written on it – which is ONE (1) from Leo (356). The right field foul pole is 353 feet down the first base line. If you add 355 + 353 you get 708 which divides evenly into 354 X 2 – which is two (2) – the only female prime number – from Leo (356).

The 421st minute of the day is 7:01 am which corresponds to 7/01 which is Princess Diana’s birthday.

Yesterday, August 31st – the day this video was made – was the 12th anniversary of Princess Diana’s passing/ascension.

19970831 – the passing/ascension of Princess Diana – plus ten (10) cycles of 421 “Prime of Paris” days brings us to 20090311 which was the end of the 308th cycle of 2389 days. 2389 is the Leo (356th) prime number and it’s composed of 23 “I (9) Am (14)” and 89 which is the prime of Leo (356) = 89 prime X 4, etc.

20090311 is 173 prime days from 20090831 and 173 days from 20090831 will be 20100220 which is the 51st day of the New Year. Check out US Route 51 which mirrors/shadows the 89th Longitude right through the heart of Illinois – see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Route_51

The end of the 11th cycle of 421 “Prime of Paris” days from 19970831 will bring us to 20100506 which is ONE (1) plus 89 “Prime of Leo (356)” days from 2/05, my 52nd birthday.

One final note: Yesterday was the 513th day from/including April 5, 2008 which is when my wife and I flew to Paris France. Right before flying out of Chicago later that day I personally drove down to Wrigley Field to buy a Fukodome #1 t-shirt for the son of some friends of mine in Finland. I have video of this experience which I have not posted to youtube yet.

513 is a non-prime number that uses the same non-prime factor as Paris (71991) – ie. 513 = 171 X 3 and Paris (71191) = 421 prime X 171.

513 also corresponds to 5/13 – May 13th – which is when the incredible events of Fatima began in central Portugal in 1917 – see http://tinyurl.com/lqwuft

Yesterday was the day that I purchased a new rosary plus a leather carrying case and another related prayer card and brass rosary ring. If you go to the very first house just west of Wrigley on the north side of Addison Street you will find that there’s a garden and sculptures dedicated to the blessed Virgin Mary. You can reach inside one or two mailboxes and get free rosary prayer beads, water from Lourdes, scapulars, etc. A very dear lady lives in this white house and I have great hope that someday there will be a very BIG grand-incredible miracle that will grace the Chicago Cubs, the City of Chicago and the people of our world.

My wife, Maribeth, was called to park far westward – well beyond Ashland, beyond the train tacks – along Grace Street last evening prior to the game.

Joes Pov
I pointed left “Turn here,” I told Nancy and as she did, I began searching the addresses on the mailboxes lined up along the street, corresponding with the obstreperously large houses. “There it is!” I spotted our address on the only black mailbox, but couldn’t see the actual house. That is until Nancy turned the car into a long driveway, which I apparently missed. “Whoa, this is huge!” Nancy eyes got wide in awe at the mansion in front of us, “How did you get this house?” she parked the car and pulled out the keys but didn’t make a move to get out. Instead she turned to me, waiting for an answer. I sighed, “Mr. Harvey gave it to us to live in.” I told her and reached for the door, but Nancy took a hold of my arm and stopped me. I turned my head at her, she was staring at me in disbelief, “Why did you accept it?” she threw her hands up, “He’s just going to want something in return!” she looked at the house when she said this, slightly shaking her head doing so. “No, actually he owed me a few favors.” I informed her and this seemed to ease her back a bit. She stepped out of the car and onto the wet green grass. It was getting dark outside but the sun shone onto the house; illuminating its dark red bricks and tall structure. I got out and walked over to the trunk and began pulling out our bags, Nancy came over and grabs her duffel from me, “Do you have the keys to the house?” she raised eyebrows and looked up at the house, “if you can even call it a house.” she muttered under her breath. I shot her a quizzical look, “what? How do you mean?” I grinned at her as a smile played on her lips, “This house is like a friggin castle!” I chuckled and went over to open the garage doors, “Harvey told me there would be two sets of keys in the kitchen drawers, and the door inside the garage should be open.” I flipped open the keypad and punched in the code “2424, okay?” I made sure she heard me and opened the door inside of the garage. This door lead to what seemed like a small laundry room, I opened another door from there and it lead to a kitchen. “Which drawer?” Nancy eyed the drawers, about 12 of them lined up next to each other going all around the kitchen. She sighed heavily and started opening the drawers two at a time. Frustrated she picked up her speed when she reached the drawer containing the keys they flew out, being the only things in the drawer, and slipped underneath the refrigerator. We both started at the fridge, Nancy huffed out a breath and slumped her shoulders, my life…” she groaned.Whats your deal?” I asked her, but I was actually worried that she was still upset. “Oh I don’t know, maybe its the fact that I haven’t slept properly in days!” she told me with sheepish smile on her face. She looked at the refrigerator once more and groaned. I let out a laugh, “Here I’ll get it,” I crouched down and slid my hand under the shiny silver fridge, and retrieved the two brass keys. When I had stood up to give one to Nancy, she was already gone.
–
part two up in a bit!!
