I found my mail open what should I do?

I live in an apartment complex with locked mailboxes. Yesterday I found my mail open from the employment sercuity department! and on the envelope it even says "for private use only $300 penalty". What should I do?

What can you do? Tell your apt. manager about it so they can check their security. But unless you know who did it, you can’t very well call the police on them, can you?

Can we complain to the post office if our mailbox is crappy?

We share mailbox center w/ the residents on our block so this isn’t our at-home personal mailbox. We all have our mailboxes w/ our personal key. My complaint is that our mailbox center is worn down completely! I have to struggle to get the lock to open! Can they do something about this?

If the mailbox to which you are referring is not located inside the post office, or if the PO didn’t supply the box, they are not responsible for it.

Arrested for padlocking mailbox…?

The previous tenants to my brothers apartment called 911 cause my brother padlocked his mailbox and put his name and the word "only" on it, it already had a slot to drop letters in. Previous tenant was driving by and getting mail out of it, previous tenant was evicted. He "argued" with officer that it is his mailbox and his aparment and offered to show his lease. Told he is under arrest for disorderly conduct and to stand up from his chair on the porch. He refused to get, officer pulled him up, threw him to the ground splashing mud on him and officer, and dry tazed him. While face down on ground he did say the F word. He is charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault on an officer. The officer told him he owed him a new uniform. Also my brother is in liver failure and on disability. I witnessed this with my mom and my neighbor. I have pictures of his bruises and tazer marks. I have statement from postmaster that it is legal to lock his mailbox. We told the police it is his mailbox and we were told it is a civil matter. This is a small town, who do I go to? I have no money for a lawyer. Public defender recommends pleading guilty to lesser charges. What do you think?

don’t listen the public defender they only say this so that they dont have to build a case and then get a real attorney and sue the ex tenant for the legal fees and use that to pay your attorney and if you can get all those people to go to court and testify saying he only resisted arrest and plead guilty to that

How do I break a mailbox lock?

First off I don’t want to hear anything about how this is illegal. I have a shared apartment complex with the small type individual boxes. I lost the key. Within the past month I have:

1. Called my landlord who said they’d make a new key
2. Called landlord back a week later who said nope, call post office.
3. Called post office who said the landlord has to do it.
4. Called landlord back who said they would check into it.
5. Called landlord back a week later who said they’re still checking into it.
6. Called landlord back YET another week later and they made a key.
7. Key doesn’t work.
8. Called landlord again who said they’d look into it.
9. Wash, rinse repeat.

My mailman is holding my mail at the post office that I can’t get to because I have a seizure disorder and no license.

I’m removing the lock tonite, anyone know how? There are no visible screws. Thanks.
I have no license because of the seizure disorder, common sense.

borrow someone power drill and drill the lock out. but yo wont be able to lock it with out replacing the entire door

check with your carrier to see if you have that service turned on in your price plan … messaging and picture messaging have to be active on your account … call your carriers customer service

My landlord has put a lock on our mailbox, the rent is ALWAYS on time…is this legal?

My landlord is crazy…I mean really crazy. We are planning to move when the lease is up (if we break the lease she says that she is going to sue us) So we are waiting until May to move. Anyway, she has put a lock on our mail box. She lives right beside us so we share the same mail box. It states in our lease that she is supposed to bring our mail to us. However, we have received a few pieces of mail that have been opened and taped shut again, We called the people and companies that the mail was from, and they state that they did not tape the letters sent to us. So our landlord has been reading our mail. So we started to check our own mail. A few days ago I went to check the mail, and there was a lock on the mailbox. We do not have a key to the mailbox so we can not get our own mail. When we asked for a key, she responded "No". Is this legal?

The lock is legal. Opening your mail is not.

However, tape does not mean she opened it. The postal service tapes mail too, sometimes it gets caught in machines and ripped.

She locked the mail box becaue in order to get to your mail you had to go through hers, and she never agreed to that.

You paid your rent on time, but there is more to your lease then just that. There is that requirement that she brings in the mail, both you and her have to follow that, and you decided to break it.

i lost the only key to my mailbox. how can i remove the lock without the key?

I live in a key-entry apartment building with a locked mailbox and my apartment is on the 4th floor (no doorman). Do the couriers have access to my building or mailbox or are they just going to leave it outside?

They leave it outside, just like any other newspaper. It’s not delivered by "couriers" – it’s delivered by a regular newspaper delivery person.
If other people in your building are also getting the paper, it will probably be all piled together on the steps outside the main doorway.

Mailbox key replacement?

I just bought a townhouse. The mailbox key was broken and stuck inside the key-lock. I need to replace the key. How do I do that? Will post office replace the lock and key for me if I pay for the fee? How much they usually charge and how long it usually takes?

The lock is very easy to change and can be purchased at Lowe’s, Home Depot etc for about $5.75. The Post Office will replace for you for about $15.
