I rent an apartment, and the mailbox is broken, the post office wont deliver mail. The landlord is not inclined to effect repair. How can I force him to fix it?
GIve him written notice that it must be fixed right away so you can get your mail.
Be prepared to fix or replace it yourself. Keep the receipt and demand reimbursement.

Between the deliveries of birthday cards, letters from abroad and occasional kayak, Kells gives a brief tour of the other side of mailbox.

I agree with gabrielool, if you want to remove your address from their mailings.
In addition to that, what I normally do is sort them out to generate cash for me. (Yes you can get cash from them.)
If I find a copy of the mailings is good, I’ll keep it as reference for my internet marketing projects. Very good reference for composing sales letters especially. Bear in mind these are usually written by top copywriters, and you get a chance to learn from them for absolutely free.
Otherwise it gets shredded, and stored in my recycle bag.
Once I get enough, I’ll send them to a nearby recycle center (together with any old magazines, newspapers or recycle stuff) in exchange for cash.
Instead of getting annoyed at junk mails, rejoice as they are literally ‘giving’ away cash.
