I don’t receive regular mail at my house, I have a P.O. box. Can UPS still deliver a package to my house?

March 272010

I live in a rural area, and we have one of those common mailboxes here, where they have 20 or so hooked together, and each person has a key to their own box. I decided to just get a regular P.O. Box instead of using those when I first moved here. So anything sent to my home address will be returned to sender.
Normally I just have UPS deliver packages to my parents house, and then I pick then up. But I won’t be going there for a few weeks. And I would like to get this stuff ASAP. Would they be able to deliver here even though I can’t get regular mail?
I didn’t really know what category to put this in. I hope this one works out ok.

~~UPS will deliver to any home who has a physical address.~~

Do I have a chance proving this case?

March 252010

Is there a statute of limitations on pressing charges against someone who intercepts
the notice of hearing of a will ? I assume it would come as a registered letter. I believe
the person has forged my name or return as not here. Let me explain how and why I
believe this to be so. I live in a rural area on a two acre estate. The person lives in the
front where the mailboxes are. And they have made a few mistakes that lead me to
believe this to be true. For one recieving buisness mail with the clear plastic window
where the address is to be shown. The letter inside would be turned around where
there would be no address to be shown, there would be no possible way the mail
carrier would know who it would be addressed to. 2nd I recieve mail that is two and
a half weeks old from post mark. I know this sounds pretty far out there, but I’ve never
have known a very smart criminal. I have done a record check on this person and they
have been charged with burglery in one county and aiding and abetting in another
county. This person was chosen to distribute proceeds of a will before there was any
criminal record. I need to be really clear on the results of the charge I am going to go
through with. Because the proceeds of the will we have incommon. I’m also going to
obtain police reports to prove harassment and proof that I have always lived at the
address

1. If the court that would handle the probate is local go there and have the entire court file copied.
2. Hire an attorney that does probate, have him/her review the court file and advise you of your rights.
3. If the court is not local, contact an attorney where the court is, have him/her copy the file and then advise you of your rights.
4. To answer your question as best I can, there are all sorts of rules that set out time limits for doing things in court. Each state has its own set. However, if you can show that you did not get notice and that you have taken action upon realizing that you had not gotten notice, most courts can essentially waive most of the time limits. I’ve recently had a five year old judgment vacated based on lack of adequate notice to the defendant five years ago.
5. Whatever you do, now that you have some idea that you didn’t get the form, move quickly to assert yourself in court.

Right Hand Drive Postal Vehicles

March 222010

Hi US Drive Right! I have certainly broken in my Jeep these last few weeks, snow, ice, rain and more ice. My job is so much easier using the RHD and the mail tray was a Godsend! Instead of reaching above my head to reach a mailbox I am now level to it, no more straining!

Concerned for our safety..?

March 212010

Ok, I’m raising my 15 y/o sister, alone,in rural western maryland and am very worried about my sister’s safety, let me explain..This guy, in his early 30’s, moved into the house next to us( about 20 yards away), he was in prison for 2 years due to drugs, and he is involved with a kkk type group, he always has his buddies over and they’re always outside working on cars and stuff , these guys are major stoners, they started yelling sexual stuff to my little sis when she is outside, My boyfriend and I talked to him about it once and he was polite and said he understood, the next day I woke up and found my tires slashed and our mailbox gone, My boyfriend said he would stay with us as much as he can, but i’m really worried about our safety and my sister is really freaked, moving is not an option right now, i’m just looking for any advice on how to deal with this…
I wanted to call the state police, but i have no "proof" the he did anything, it’s my word against theirs, so I don’t believe that they could really do anything

Have video cameras install outside the house. Let some other neighbors be aware about thye situation and to be on the look out. If the insults continue, contact local authorities.

white men can jump (ish)!

worried for us/neighbor problem…?

March 182010

Ok, I’m raising my 15 y/o sister, alone,in rural western maryland and am very worried about my sister’s safety, let me explain..This guy, in his early 30’s, moved into the house next to us( about 20 yards away), he was in prison for 2 years due to drugs, and he is involved with a kkk type group, he always has his buddies over and they’re always outside working on cars and stuff , these guys are major creeps, they started yelling sexual stuff to my little sis when she is outside, My boyfriend and I talked to him about it once and he was polite and said he understood, the next day I woke up and found my tires slashed and our mailbox gone, also, really strange smells come from the house when he has windows open, (it almost made me gag once), and he is beginning to fill his yard with junk, he must have 20 cars around the property. anyhow, my boyfriend said he would stay with us as much as possible, moving isnt an option right now, just looking for ways to deal with this until we can move…

I think the next time you smell those strange oders you should call your local law in forment (police) cause it could be a meth lab and if it blows your home is going with it. Other than that it sounds like hes a mess and will wind up back in before you know it any ways. Good luck and I would not leave my sister home alone at all.

Are U.S. retailers more frantic to make sales than ever this year?

March 162010

I live in a rural area, and do a lot of business through the mail. Every online mail order retailer I have ever done business with has been stuffing my mailbox (both in real life and online) with offers, coupons, sales… you name it.

A couple have even made sales calls to my home number "just to let you know about our special bargains."

And this morning, December 25th, I’ve gotten a flood of "after-Christmas sales" offers.

Even though I know that most of them depend on the end-of-the-year period to make up a significant portion of the year’s transactions, I can’t recall a year when the sales approaches seemed more frantic.

Has the retail sector gotten out of recession? Or are they in more trouble than ever?
.

I think they are still in deep trouble, and that’s why they are so frantic to make sales, reducing prices, and bargaining. The problem exists because more people than ever are unemployed and people have generally become more frugal.

U.S. Postal Carrier Food Drive 2009 – Northern Arizona Food Bank

March 162010

Help feed your neighbors on May 9, U.S. Postal Carriers will collect non-perishable food donations left by mailboxes and in post offices and deliver them to local community food banks, pantries and shelters. Nearly 1,500 local NALC branches in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands are involved in the drive.

Every second Saturday in May letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns across America deliver much more than mail when they walk and drive along their postal routes. They also collect the goodness and compassion of their postal customers who participate in the NALC Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive the largest one-day food drive in the nation and probably the world.

Entering its 17th year, this years drive is May 9. The effort by letter carriers represented by the National Association of Letter Carriers (AFL-CIO), with the help of rural letter carriers, other postal employees and numerous other volunteers has resulted in delivery of nearly one billion pounds of donations to community food banks and pantries over the past 16 years.

In 2008, the drive collected 73,113,915 pounds of food for the needy from postal customers. That brought the total for the first 16 years to 909 million pounds.

The U.S. Postal Service and Campbell Soup Company are major supporters again in 2009, cosponsoring the printing of 125 million postcards to encourage the general public to participate in the drive. Campbell Soup also earmarked an additional 1 million pound canned food donation to the drive. Also returning as a major supporter is Cox Target Media and its Valpak Direct Marketing Systems, the nationwide direct mail marketing firm, which promotes the drive on 40 million packets delivered to postal customers.

The drive also relies on the backing of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association, Americas Second Harvest, the nations food bank network; the United Way of America and its local United Ways, the AFL-CIO Community Services network, and countless local sponsors.

All citizens need do is to place a box or can of non-perishable food next to their mailbox before their letter carrier delivers mail on Saturday, May 9. The carrier will do all the rest. The food is taken back to a postal station, sorted, and then delivered to an area food bank or pantry. There it is available for needy families.

Some 35.5 million people face hunger every day in America, including 13 million children. This drive is one way people can help those right in their own city or town who need help.

The NALC food drive has received a number of accolades over the years, including two Presidential Certificates of Achievement, a special appreciation award in 2003 from Americas Second Harvest food bank network, the annual Humanitarian of the Year award in 2003 from Bon Appétit/Food Network, and the annual World Hunger Year/Chapin Award in 2004.

Again, this years drive will be held on its traditional second Saturday of May, May 9, 2009.

When rural Conservatives talk about being "self sufficient" do they mean…?

March 142010

…walking to the mailbox to get their government handouts all by themselves?
For example:

"Taxpayers sent $13.4 billion in farm subsidies to more than 1.4 million recipients in 2006.."
http://farm.ewg.org/farm/summary.php

"In the 1930s, nearly 90 percent of urban dwellers had electricity, compared to only 10 percent of rural dwellers. Private utility companies, which supplied electric power to most of the nation’s consumers, argued that it was too expensive to string electric lines to isolated rural farmsteads. In addition, they argued that most farmers were too poor to afford electricity…"
http://www.u-s-history.com/pages/h1653.html

"Well into the 20th century, calling them "roads" gives them more credit than they deserve. They were often little more than trails that were muddy in the rain and dusty the rest of the time. Any long trip by automobile required not only time, patience, and ingenuity, but tire-patching equipment, tools, spare parts, and emergency food and fuel…"
http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/infrastructure/rw96a.cfm
"The Universal Service High-Cost program is designed to ensure that consumers in rural, insular, and high-cost areas have access to telecommunications services at rates that are affordable and reasonably comparable to those in urban areas…"
http://www.fcc.gov/wcb/tapd/universal_service/highcost.html

And finally, to actually get the checks out to them:

"We’ve got rural post offices out there that we’ll spend $10 in costs for every $1 we take in in revenue…"
http://marketplace.publicradio.org/display/web/2010/01/05/pm-usps/

No, if you haven’t learned what self sufficient means by now I’m assuming there is no hope for you.
