January 292010
Well it has been delivered to my mailbox, i had it for 2 days now
i want to find the person that the check belongs to so he can personally come pickup the recovery check mail, since my mail box is right at the curbside of the street, i can’t trust neighbors or someone look and steal mail from my mailbox, and no i can’t put it back, because the red thingy majjiger fell off and im not at my house when the mail man drops off mail. and im new to the city im in, so no, i wont go to a post office because i dont drive and i dont know where is one, and no, i won’t buy a new mail box because I have no money. i will provide name of person if you can help me find their current address. state= texas
It’s not your responsibility to locate this person. The proper way to handle this situation is to place it back in your mailbox and write "not at this address" on the envelope. If somebody steals it out of your mailbox that is a federal crime. If you don’t have a flag or know where the post office is, how on earth do you mail anything? You might be able to find their address on whitepages.com. I had a refund check come to my house by accident, and I just handed it back to the mailman the next day with the "not at this address" message written on the envelope.
If this person is expecting this check all they have to do is call and as long as the other check hasn’t been cashed, they will be issued another one. The previous check will be cancelled and in about 30 days they will receive another one.

I would suggest that you call the post office and explain the problem. They may send someone to pick it up.

Simply write in bold letters "wrong address" on the letter & put it in the mailbox for pickup.. the PO will figure it out.
If your neighbors steal it (I think you’re being pretty paranoid), it’s not your problem.
