Help on sending a letter!?

I am sending a Valentine’s card to a friend overseas (to UK from USA). I am including a little book in the envelope…do I need to go to the post office to send it? Or can I put enough stamps on it and put it in my residential mailbox and trust that it will get sent?

Go to the post office. Besides making sure there is enough postage on it, there probably are customs forms you will need to fill out since you are including the book.
And it will go faster if sent by air mail, so will need to be marked for that.

concerned for our safety…?

Ok, I’m raising my 15 y/o sister, alone,in rural western maryland and am very worried about my sister’s safety, let me explain..This guy, in his early 30’s, moved into the house next to us( about 20 yards away), he was in prison for 2 years due to drugs,and he is involved with a kkk type group, he always has his buddies over and they’re always outside working on cars and stuff , these guys are major stoners, they started yelling sexual stuff to my little sis when she is outside, My boyfriend and I talked to him about it once and he was polite and said he understood, the next day I woke up and found my tires slashed and our mailbox gone, My boyfriend said he would stay with us as much as he can, but i’m really worried about our safety and my sister is really freaked, moving is not an option right now, i’m just looking for any advice on how to deal with this..

Move move move!! File a police report and get the hell out of there. Even if you have to break a lease. Better break a lease than have something terrible happen to you or your sister.

does anyone know if there is a law about paint color of a mailbox post?

About a year ago, I went to my local post office and asked about regulations for mounting my new mailbox. I received a copy of one of their forms, PS4056 (The carrier leaves one of these with your mail when something is wrong with your mailbox, your mounting solution or both). They also gave me a photocopy of a handout that lists instructions for "Curbside Mailbox Installation" and "Accessibility of the Mailbox".

Reading through both of them, I noted that the photocopied handout reads "The mounting of the box can be as varied as your imagination, but should be able to withstand the elements and daily use." The form reads "Post must be neat and of adequate strength and size."

If you want to do something very creative (one of my neighbors actually has a statue of Disney’s Goofy holding their mailbox) but would feel better knowing that you won’t get in trouble, visit your local post office and ask for anything they have in print regarding mounting your mailbox. More than likely they’ll give you the same or similar paperwork. Good luck!

where i come from one is for local and intrastate (meaning within the state) the other is for interstate (meaning other states) and overseas and then there is yet another for parcels or thick large letters which would not go through the other 2 and has a larger opening.

remove lock from mailbox door?

I need to remove the lock on the door to my mailbox condo unit the key does not go all the way in so now I need to take the lock out and replace it. We own the home and the home assoc. say we have to do the work ourselves. I don’t have access to the backside. What is the best way to repair this?

Emergency personnel respond to a single vehicle accident on Hwy 7 South in rural Hot Spring County, Arkansas on April 21, 2008.
