Change mailbox lock in apartment mailbox?

January 292010

I lost a key to my apartment mailbox and need to change the lock.

First make sure that the key and box is not the property of the post office. You can get a replacement key from them if it is.

If you have to open the lock without a key, simply drill it out and use a screw driver to turn the lock and open the door. Once the door is open there will be a clip holding the lock in place. Slide the clip over and the lock will pop out of the door. Take the lock and clip to Home Depot, Lowe’s, or any neighborhood hardware store and they will be able to provide you with another lock for less than $5.00.

You can’t. This HAS to be done by the PO. Just call. Maybe…$10
