how do you pick a mailbox lock?

here is my delima. I lost my mailbox key and i ask my apartment office to give me a key and put the charge on my rent. that’s when they told me no if you lose it you won’ t be able to open your mail. i really do need to get into my mailbox to get my pills so i want be in debt….HELP

You could hire a locksmith to drill out the lock and put in a replacement one.

You could also call the companies who send you bills and ask them to let you pay over the phone or to send them a check for the amount owed. Those both solve your problem.

You could also talk to the mailman, show him some id, and ask for your mail.

    That is quite a delima. Unpaid pills can sink your credit.

    Are they telling you that if you lose your key you can’t get another, even if you’re willing to pay, and will never get into your mailbox ever again? That doesn’t sound right. If they won’t provide a key, no one will ever be able to open the box. Ask them again.

    Here’s a thought. The managers of the apartments have bosses. Owners of the building. Go over there head, go directly to the owners. If the owners are out of town, call them if possible. Otherwise, I recommend you contact the attorney general in your county/state. They can help or direct you to someone in authority who can help. This is not right. Sometimes managers just get power hungry and don’t really care about the tenants.

    The first thing I would do would be call the post office branch that handles your mail. Explain the situation to them. I believe that ultimately the USPS has authority over the mail box. They should be able to get your mail out and arrange for a new key. Oh, and stay away from too many pills, clouds your mind and you’ll lose all your keys.

    James is correct. The USPS does this, not the apartment complex . Just call. $10-15
