I just started selling avon and have very few customers. I was wondering if its okay to leave avon books in peoples mailboxes?
Wow I had no idea it was against the law!! Thanks so much for letting me know!!
The only legal way to get a brochure into someone’s mailbox (even with their permission) is to send it through the mail. I wouldn’t throw away brochures like that, though. Most people will throw them right away without looking at them. Think for a moment: how often do you look through every piece of junk mail you get? If you really do want to mail things out (opposed to just going up, knocking on the door, and talking to the person) why don’t you get something cheap like postcards? VistaPrint.com offers personalized postcards at a really good price, and you can even buy a mailing list from them. You are able to input specific demographics for your postcards (for instance, you have a better chance sending to females). They print them, post them, and mail them off for one flat fee. It does get expensive though, buying a mailing list though.
Honestly, the easiest (and cheapest) way is just to suck up some courage and just keep walking by that mailbox and go right to the front door and knock!
sure.

Nope. You’re not supposed to leave anything in mailboxes except official U.S. mail.
Try getting those clear plastic bags and hanging them off their doorknobs instead.

Technically it’s against the law to put stuff in mailboxes.

it’s fine. you need to get your name out there. if people don’t want it, they can throw it away

NO it is a federal offense. No one can go into your mailbox but you and the US postal service.
And please do not leave anything hanging on my door as it just advertises to the burglar that I’m not home!

Sure…do it, why not.

you aren’t really allowed to leave anything in peoples mailboxes without going through the postal service. be safe… leave it on the doorstep

its best if you just mail it because its against the law to open people’s mail box without permision in stuff like that

Actually it is against the law to place them in their actual mailboxes. If you attach it to their door, you need a permit. So most people can get away with it by just dropping one in their driveway.

Sure, but no bombs, or bills… bills are just as bad

No, no, no,no,no!!
ONLY items with postage on them can be left in mailboxes in the U.S. It is a federal law. Applies in EVERY state.

yes, i think so. as long as you have your contact info on it so if they don’t want them, they can politely ask you to stop. i have a hard time finding an avon rep, so i would love that. it’s a good idea. also, leave them in dr’s offices and business waiting rooms.

Unless you want them to be thrown out , if you have to pay for them that may be a very big waste of money.

Alot of people do, but it is pretty impersonal so many ppl are not going to buy. Why don’t you have an "Avon" party. Tell ppl they don’t have to buy anything you are just having a "get to know you" party and invite a bunch of ppl, hand out the books and go from there. Ppl will be more likely to buy then.

Well I believe it is against a federal law. I am pretty sure of that. Nothing is supposed to go into a mailbox unless it has a stamp and the mailman brings it, which is why people have seperate boxes for their newspapers. Try leaving the books in the door, on a windshild, ect. Good luck with Avon.

I think it is illegal to put anything unmailed into a mailbox. That is why people hang things on doorknobs.
also, I used to sell avon, and it gets expensive to leave books at houses that are unwanted.
I recommend leaving them in doctor’s waiting rooms, or laundromats, or other places people sit and wait like for an oil change. That way they will have something to look at.
Now I often wish I knew where to find an avon person!

No. Only US MAIL can go in mailboxes. Any other use is a federal offense.
Don’t mean to scare you…Avon rocks and all…but no mailboxes.

you’re not supposed to use the mailbox. going house to house is a good idea though. my husband does side jobs (concrete & landscape) and has gotten most his business by leaving a flyer in the front entryway.
Post a question asking if anyone wants place an order and include your avon website.

Absolutely not! The USPS WILL fine you, once they find out that you are using governement property to promote your business! And they WILL find out!
My parents got fined over $500 for putting flyers for their biz in mailboxes. IF the homeowner has a newspaper box, etc., that is fine. Otherwise, expect to get a phone call from the one of the biggest revenue-producing branches of the government.
Not worth it!
Try a press release to your local paper; send out an email to all family and friends. Do your parties. Network, network, network.
Good luck! (Tastefully Simple rep for over 8 years!)

It is against the law to touch any ones mailbox….so don’t get caught doing that……just get up the guts and knock on the door like any other good sales person does…..i think you lack the skills of a true sales person…..but its OK you can learn them..and the first step is to be able to talk to new customers…just go right up to the first person you meet tomorrow and offer them one of your Avon books…great sales persons don’t fear people saying no to them…oh well…that just means the next person will say yes…2 out of 5 people will say no….so play the odds game….maybe you’ll get 3 out of 5…..saying yes…so look forward to the No’s….because there leading you to the yes………
p.s: stay away from mailboxes….go right up to the door…..at a reasonable hour…..people love that one on one touch anyway…

To everyone who said they are looking for an Avon Representative: I am an Avon Representative. You can do shopping online on my webpage, or I would be happy to conduct business through the mail. You can email me at beckysavon@yahoo.com. and yes, it is illegal to leave avon books in people’s mailboxes. However, after the mail comes and is still sitting in the box, no postman will know….
