Can I move My Mailbox From the side of my house to the front where the others are?

February 242010

I moved into a apartment in sept of 2008. I live in a rear apt and my mailbox is on the side by my door. I never get my mail. My carrier just puts my mail in with my neigbors mail. I didnt know this was happening until xmas, when my family said my cards they sent me got returned. I talked with my neigbor (who is kind of mean) and he said that he does get my mail and he puts it in my box. I got sneaky and mailed myself 3 letters, of which i didnt recieve any of them. I called the postmaster and filed a complaint but nothing happened. I was wondering if i could move my mailbox 20 feet, from the side near the rear to the front next to the other mailboxes pertaining to my house. (it is residential house with 3 apts in it. and my carrier is on foot.)

First of all,
tampering with the mail is a federal offense.
You should inform your neighbor of this.
Second,
your mailman (mailwoman? mailperson!)
your mail carrier should deliver your mail to YOUR designated box.
NOT someone else’s.
Third,
I would think the carrier would welcome your box being moved to the front because obviously, he/she is too busy or lazy to put your mail into your proper box.

BTW-
Good thinking sending yourself some letters.
Keep doing it every so often.
Heck! You might have won the Publisher’s Clearinghouse Sweepstakes and not even know it!!!

All the best..

You need to check with the landlord first. Second option is get yourself a PO box. 22 a year is not bad for the privacy

I agree about getting a post office box. If you think you’re having trouble with your mail now, wait till you move. You can keep the same post office box while rental addresses can change, and it makes life a lot easier.

Besides, I bet the post office raises holy shit over moving these boxes, the post office is all about consolidating their stops into as large a units as possible. Getting your landlords permission would only be the beginning here.

p.s. by the way, your neighbor is a rotten jerk. It’s too bad we have to share the world with people like him. I hope nothing bad happens to his own mail in his mail box wink wink. :)

I don’t see moving your mailbox as being a solution. The problem is with your mailman.he is payed to deliver the mail to the correct address and as he is not doing this should be reported .
