Yes the only way that you can put anything inside anyones mailbox is if you work for the postal service. It is posssible that there are local laws that cover this also. If they are going to hand out pamplets, they need to go somewhere else besides on the mailbox.

Yes. Once a mail box is installed, by law only U.S. mail is allowed to be put in it.

Yes, from my understanding anyone other than a postal worker is not allowed to even touch a mailbox that is not his own ... but even if it wasn't a federal offense, it sure as hell irks the crap out of the owner of the mailbox.

Yeah it is, that's why people stick flyers in/on fences with rubber bands and stuff. You even see that newspapers that get delivered to homes sometimes have their own box under the mailbox. I used to sell Avon and we were told NEVER to put catalogs in mailboxes.l The only way to get them into a mailbox was to put a stamp on it and mail it.

Mailboxes are supposed to be for mails only. Thus, advertisements are prohibited and could be filed as a federal offense.
