Do rural mailboxes still use flags?

Did flags indicate mail was left for mailing or mail was delivered to box?

    Yes, we live in a rural community, and we have a mailbox with a flag, and it does mean that you have put mail in the box for the mail man to pick up the next time he runs.

    As to whether the mail man left any mail, you just have to get out and check. My husband and I get home close to the same time every day, and he wants to invent some type of sign that would indicate whether the mail had been checked for that day. :)
